Won’t You Help to Sing These Songs of Freedom
Brandon put together a little ten-song tribute to Dr. King yesterday and invited others to do the same. I’m usually pretty quick when it comes to music lists like this, but I’m still battling a cold, so I’m just now getting to my contribution. Not all of these tracks are available at iTunes, so I haven’t bothered with the links.
- Shed a Little Light – James Taylor
- Freedom Ride – Largo
- A Change Is Gonna Come – Otis Redding
- I Shall Not Walk Alone – Ben Harper & The Blind Boys of Alabama
- Freedom Now – Tracy Chapman
- Legacy – Pierce Pettis
- Mississippi Goddam – Nina Simone
- They Killed Him – Bob Dylan
- Freedom Road – The Blind Boys of Alabama
- M.L.K. – The King’s Singers
I love most of these songs, but not all of them. In particular, the Dylan song is a little manipulative, what with the children’s chorus and all. But it was still hard not to include it. And yes, neither of us went with U2’s “Pride (In the Name of Love).” So it goes.
